Building Resiliency in Children | Trusting Their Innate Strength

As parents, we naturally want to protect our children from hardship and ensure they grow up strong and capable. But resiliency—the ability to bounce back from challenges—comes not from sheltering children from difficulties but from helping them understand their own innate strength. Through the lens of the Three Principles—Mind, Thought, and Consciousness—we learn that resiliency is something every child already has within them. Our role as parents is to help them reconnect with it.

Thought and Resiliency

Resiliency is shaped by the thoughts we have about ourselves and the challenges we face. When children are caught up in fearful or insecure thinking, they may feel overwhelmed by setbacks. But the Three Principles show us that these thoughts are temporary, just passing ideas that don’t define who we are. Helping children understand that their experience is created by thought empowers them to navigate challenges with more ease, knowing that their feelings of fear or uncertainty will pass.

Consciousness: Expanding Awareness in Children

Consciousness allows children to become aware of their thinking and how it shapes their experience. As parents, we can support them in developing this awareness by helping them notice when they are caught up in unhelpful thinking and reminding them that they have the ability to let go of these thoughts. As children become more conscious of their thinking, they gain confidence in their ability to handle challenges and bounce back from difficulties.

Mind: Trusting in Children’s Innate Wisdom

Mind, the deeper intelligence that guides life, is always available to children, just as it is to adults. When we trust in this wisdom, we stop trying to solve every problem for our children and instead allow them to find their own solutions. By encouraging children to trust in their own wisdom and resilience, we help them develop the confidence and strength they need to navigate life’s challenges.

Conclusion

Building resiliency in children comes from helping them understand that their strength lies within them, shaped by their thoughts and guided by the wisdom of Mind. By supporting their awareness and trusting in their innate resilience, we can help them navigate life’s challenges with confidence.

Pransky & Associates

In 1976, George and Linda Pransky stumbled on a new way of helping people that was radically different from the traditional counseling methods they had been using in their work. The new principles they were learning had a huge impact on their personal lives, their relationship, and the way they worked with their clients. They began to teach these principles to their clients and became pioneers in a new field of psychology that profoundly changed people in a short amount of time.
